In 2005 we had a diverse rock club called the music library, it used to take place in the beach bar and upstairs in the library (now a lapdancing club) we had live bands every 2 weeks there used too be some awesome bands playing with all styles of rock & metal & punk, Turnouts were high and The fans went home happy, on weeks that bands werent playing we had a DJ night in the beach bar and then library, then the library had closed down to noise complaints around september 2005, ok we rarely had bands in the library we used to go in there after bands and chill out as it was kitted with sofas and comfy chairs and had a pool table and had an awesome atmosphere, at least we still had the beach bar and band nights or so we thought, the band nights had stopped around late october due to some unfortunate consuequences. For a while the beach bar stayed open for alternatives to come and drink and listen to rock music but soon enough that ended as well, This upset alot of people as this was the last alternative night in skegness and it left us with nothing to do and nowhere to go except house partys etc.
In january 2006 several members of the alternative scene campaigned to get an alternative night back which led to the creation of this website to help our cause. We managed to get a DJ night back again and on January 27th 2006 we pulled it off, It did quite well.
On the week leading up to Friday 10th February, Nick Briggs & Stacey Lazenby were trying to organise an 18th Birthday party for Me and they were posed with one question, where to have it?
Fortuantely they thought of the beach bar and they asked if they could have a few bands on in there to celebrate a mates birthday and they got the go ahead and with a few days notice and very little promotion they booked 5 bands and with the hype that it was a birthday gig it was a tremendous success, The beach bar was packed with alternatives that never wanted the nights to just disappear.
The Gig did so well that the manager of the parade complex which consists of Fat Louis, Strikes, The Library & The Beach Bar asked Nick & Stacey to organise band nights monthly, Unfortunately Stacey had to move to loughborough and it lead to Me and Nick running things.
In March we pulled of our 1st gig as a team and the rest is history.
In April we managed to book TorsoHorse who up to the point were the biggest band we'd got, Not only did we do that but we tried a band night downstairs in Strikes and it went well.
Up to July we had a few more in The Beach Bar and then we had another one in Strikes and it did so well we were told we can have them down in Strikes permanently and we can do the band nights every 3 weeks instead of one a month. Then for the next few months we organised them and they went well.
Since then we had had help from several people such as matt chambers and the phobias/demi-reps who regularly help provide a PA. Weve had help from popular alternative Cat and also help from Dean Edgely, Sherrie Hartopp amongst others who we are grateful for.
During The Course of November 2006, Nick & Me Parted ways due to creative differences leaving Me in Sole Control of the running/organising of the club. Me & Nick had some good times working as a team and its undeniable that ive learnt alot from him, whether it be how to or not to run a rock club. After this I decided to give a call to the old hosts of the band nights through 2005 after realising the club owner had no problem with them after all and it was all a big misunderstanding and rumours spread by certain people.
Throughout the last week of november we started working as a team postering and sorting out the promotion and on Friday December 1st 2006 we pulled of our 1st gig as a team & it was a tremendous success. We were moved to Fat Louis last minute & still managed to pack out the place totally. The Night featured GoFatClive, ThePhobias & The BiG! Everyone went home happy, the bands, the crowd & the manager who was so pleased he has decided to let us have gigs in Fat Louis for the indefinate future & also a possible Library reunion one time thing somewhere down the line. That gives the 4 venues in the parade complex to host Alternative Nights (Beach Bar/Strikes/Fat Louis/Library). So the new team is here to stay bringing you Alternative nights every 3 weeks at the parade complex.
Thanks to anyone who has showed up to the alternative nights & to anyone who has played. Also anyone that has helped us out. Keep showing up and see some great bands play. See you in the pit.
